There is no such thing in anyone's life as an unimportant day.

TIM's BLOG
(Random Thoughts and Tim's Daily World):
Today I will continue to reprint some of the letters
that people have written in over the years. These letters
are primarily from 2002, and as usual, were so appreciated
as still appreciated as I reread them today.
Because I think that looking back, at times, can be as
valuable as looking forward...here are some more
of the best of "Readers Respond"
Thanks and love to all!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
(Brand New and Classic Love Works Essays 2001-2007)
In the Jewish tradition, it has been said by our sages "to save one life
is to save the whole world". The WORST thing to do would be to save
none at all. There's nothing fair pr loving about that (unless, of
course, you are not physically able to attempt the rescue and would be
likely to perish in the act).
The only loving answer that I can come to is to save as many as
possible. If you start with your friend and then try for the others,
fine. If you decide you can save more people by starting with the
others, that's a good thing too. It is often the case in fires, even
with several teams of trained firemen, that not all the people can be
evacuated and saved. How would I feel if I were one of the ones "left
behind" while others were being saved? I would feel sad for myself, but
also thankful for each one who was rescued.

"...wake now! Discover that you are the song
that the morning brings..."
Hi! I thought it might be helpful to drop a note so Tim knows that people
out here are really reading his stuff <g> and trying to put it to use. Now,
I know that what he's writing is basically for provoking thought,
engendering consideration, and stuff...and I know that it would be darned
near impossible to put EVERY idea to use every day. (Hey, if I could do
that, I probably wouldn't need this body any more....and I could come back
as a CAT!)
Yet and still, I *have* found some interesting bits here and there and I
thought I would share my "experience, strength and hope" in how I try to
use those bits in my life. Maybe someone else can get some ideas from it.
The biggest piece that I have found helpful is the "15 minutes a day" idea.
That is the idea of doing a job for a short period every day until it's
done, instead of trying to do it all at once. I am currently using this
principle in alphabetizing and sorting out the books out in our storage
space (I started at Z in the paperback fiction and I am up to M now....I
have culled approximately 3000 books so far, and alphabetized at least that
many, if not more....all doing no more than 2 shelves a day.) I am also
trying to do it with blackberries but I am not so successful, as sometimes
the tool is not available when I'm on my way out of the house...and because
I think the darned blackberries grow faster than "15 minutes a day" can cut
down!
Another piece that's been helpful is simply remembering that "LOVE IS ALL
THERE IS"....my choices are "love" or "fear". Now, which do I want? Let me
think this through carefully....oh yeah! Love! Hard as it is sometimes.
So, thanks, Tim, for sitting down each day and putting your thoughts out
here for us. Lately there have been a lot of questions to think about, and
I have no answers to those...not even a lot of ruminations on them. But I
I do appreciate the questions.
hugs to all as wants 'em,
Deborah
I hope you have lots of loving, happy moments with L'il Buddy! I'm so
proud of you for recognizing that your twenty years of "dog abstinence"
was due to hanging onto the old hurt, and not any fault of the dogs who
may have passed through your life since then.
Every new animal who joins our household is a brand new chance to
discover and practice love. They have each had their own ways of loving
and eliciting love. See each new one with "beginner's eyes", and try
not to compare or confuse them with pets of the past.
BTW, on the topic of encouragement, I have often taken the opportunity
to tell people "good job!" or whatever, sometimes in the form of Post-It
notes attached to the check in the bill payment envelope. We recently
had our decks pressurewashed and restained, and I sent a note with the
check praising the quality of the work, and thanking the painter and his
crew for being such a pleasure to work with. It was an honest
compliment, and took about 30 seconds to do. I got a call on my
answering machine when he received my note and payment, and he said it
really made his day (and the tone of voice was full of wonder). Why
don't we do more of this? It's so easy!
And thank you for this newsletter. A dear friend recommended it, and
I'm so happy I joined your list. Not only are you working on positive
issues, from the heart, but you're not afraid to be REAL about it! Just
reading your Love Works Dailies helps me be braver about working on my
own issues. (((hugs)))

"...wake now! Discover that you are the song
that the morning brings..."
I have one of those battery powered toothbrushes. It has a two minute
timer. I can brush my teeth very thoroughly without paying much attention
to it, much better than I ever brushed them with a regular toothbrush. But
enough justifying the expensive yuppie toy. I've started spending that two
minutes doing all the picking up that I can with one hand. I put away
jewelry and makeup and art supplies from my dresser and sink, pick up
socks and towels and dishes and papers... It's amazing to me how much of a
difference those two minutes can make, and not only is my room cleaner, my
teeth are too! I actually find myself brushing my teeth more often, and
for longer. It's not just another boring chore, and I feel really good
when I'm done.
Since I'm writing today, I also thought I'd share the very best thing I've
done to improve my life recently, which is to begin a twelve week creative
recovery program called "The Artist's Way," by Julia Cameron. I highly
recommend this to anyone who wants to be more creative, and especially
anyone who is suffering from blocked creativity. It's a wonderful book.
Feel free to email me if you'd like to hear more about this book or her
wonderful program.

A Final Thought:
Love is always the right thing to do. Even if it isn't the easiest
thing to do.
May we have compassion for the struggles of others, wisdom to
acknowledge our own, and courage to address them both every day.
